This iteration of Ujiie’s Sake Cup feels more formal in shape and structure in comparison to the rest. The small cylindrical shape is disrupted by two small ridges (made by the artist’s hand on the wheel) and the lacquer inlay creates a “V” shape on the face of the form. The luxurious baby blue celadon coats the porcelain smoothly and evenly. The soft glossy quality of the glaze contrasts the buttery quality of the clay and together, with the lacquer inlay, create a beautifully complex composition.
