Niisato crafted this tea bowl with gently curving walls atop a short, sturdy base. The bowl’s simple shape focuses the viewer on the thick coat of reflective, black glaze. When used to serve powdered green tea, or matcha, the bright green liquid would offer a stark contrast with the bowls deep black interior. The glaze’s pebbly surface gives the bowl a textured, grippy feel when held.
