Shiro Tsujimura’s Katamigawari Tea Bowl is made with a high iron clay body. Through firing, the clay becomes deeper in the kiln and the colors radiate and come alive. Throughout the piece, you can see evidence of this through small pockets of bright red and orange. The glaze is applied and then rubbed off, allowing the texture of the clay body to show through and highlight the earthy qualities of the piece itself. One of the more unique Shiro Tsujimura pieces in the collection, this piece is a masterpiece.
