This tea bowl is exemplary of the popular han-tsutsu, or “half-cylinder,” form, with wide, straight walls that curve at the base to a short, sturdy foot. The relatively simple shape focuses the viewer on the rippled texture and color of the glaze. Tsujimura coated this bowl with a thin layer of his signature green-grey glaze before applying a thick white slip. The combination creates a complex color pallet as light refracts through the semi-translucent glazes.
