Working with pebbly, unglazed clay, Tsujimura crafted a sake cup characterized by its texture and the natural effects of firing clay. The cup’s slightly ovular shape was formed to be held between the thumb and forefinger. In one’s hand, the texture of slightly burnished sides contrast with the cup’s rough foot. The vessel’s exterior is unglazed with a clear, reflective glaze on the interior. The shifting reds and yellows of the clay are the natural effects of having been fired at high temperatures in oxidation.
