The two white orbs on the face of this plate reference botamochi, a natural discoloration caused when ceramics are stacked on top of each other during firing. Between the rings, reminiscent of eyes or moons, a smooth pool of dark-green glaze contrasts with the thinly applied blue-grey glaze covering most of the plate and revealing the rough texture of the sandy clay
