Shin Fujihira’s Owl Incense Burner is a tall and structural piece. Constructed with slabs, the body of the form is strong and the lid of the piece provides a nice and soft contrast in shape. The addition of the two owls perched on the lid reminds us of the sweet drawings in children's books. The soft green-fade to blue- glaze imagines these figures to be floating on a cloud in the sky. The flow of the glaze alongside the flatness of the form creates a sense of movement, like water flowing.
