Tohru Matsuzaki hand sculpted this black urushi lacquer tea bowl. Notice the thin and seemingly uneven rim of the tea bowl reminiscent of the artist’s journey in creating this piece. It is as if one can imagine where the artist placed his hands in order to form the lip of the bowl. Layers and layers of applied lacquer is where this tea bowl gets its atramentous color and intricate texture.
