Kodai Ujiie’s Ofukei and Lacquer tea bowl illustrates a harmony of rainbow colors in the celadon glaze application. A thick layer of celadon moves alongside the face of the form, dragging the highly pigmented celadon oxide with it, creating bursts of watercolor-like finishes. The rest of the tea bowl exhibits the same qualities of lacquer inlay and the artist’s attention to organic and rough form.
