This ‘Flake Tea Bowl’ by Yukiya Izumita is a unique iteration of his flake series, usually recognized by scale-like ascensions of clay alongside the tea bowl. This tea bowl focuses more on the effects of glaze along the textured surface. The dripping red iron glaze on the form's exterior is a refreshing and colorful addition to the usual earthy tones of Izumita’s work. The inside of the tea bowl, lined with a matte black glaze, is classic to Izumita’s forms. The black on the inside of the form furthermore enhances the tea-drinking experience as the bright, vibrant green of fresh matcha becomes more brilliant against the glaze.
