Tsujimura crafted this tea bowl on a potter’s wheel before coating the vessel with a thick layer of black glaze. Around the base, pockets in the glaze that opened when firing complicate the bowl’s relatively smooth texture. The bowl’s thick walls turn slightly inward around the rim to better retain the warmth of hot tea, especially when used for a winter time tea gathering.
