The broad body, straight walls, and squat foot of this piece is typical of han-tsutsu, or “half-cylinder,” tea bowls, one of the tea ceremony’s most popular forms. Shaped on a potter’s wheel, Tsujimura coated the piece in his signature green-grey glaze. The lightly applied glaze gathered around the hip of the bowl to create a distinct green band around the body.
