    Through Her Eyes

In Memory of Laura de Santillana 21 October - 18 November 2020

Dedicated to the late artist and friend Laura de Santillana, In Her Eyes: In Memory of Laura de Santillana is an exhibition that remembers her legacy, fine craft, and most importantly, her person. We draw upon memories of her love, kindness, and care to illustrate and share the depth of her warmth, her gentle presence, and her passionate, radiant soul. We remember her life, and we continue her story. Her soul lives within us and her glasswork, absorbing time, space, and light, forever delivering her touch, voice, and legacy to new generations.

Like a gentle touch, a hand shake, an embrace, the warmth of the colored light that travels through the work seem to brighten the place and travel through our souls.

Lying on its side, the colors of the sculptural Tablet seem to seep, mixing and mingling like that of oil spots in water. Like caramel candy, the shine of the tablets look wet, enticing, and rich with color. The color tempts us and invites our touch.

  • The silver leaf highlights the piece and creates a beautiful atmosphere. The siver leaf applique adds another level of depth in the sculpture as the light moves around, through, and inside the body of the piece.

Part of a tablet series, when together, they complete the composition, a harmonious balance of colors and reflection. The pieces, in their form and structure, allude to that of musical notes and sounds, the arrangement of the sculptures create a song.

The tall structure of Laura de Santillana's bamboo pieces give off a strong presence. The bamboo pieces collectively have an ethereal presence, with a soft glow of light emmitting from the seams of the piece, it is as if the glass contains soul, slowly reaching out into our space.
