Shinobu Kawase (b. 1989) is known for his celadon wares, which he decorates in the traditional pale-blue and green style. Kawase is a third-generation member of a ceramic family hailing from Kanagawa Prefecture. Kawase's shapes are elegantly curved in defiance of gravity, and his celadon glazes are sublimely soft. The works of China's Southern Song dynasty (1127–1279), especially their celadons, have a strong influence on Kawase.
