Reiji Omori (b. 1969) is a pottery artist based in Bizen, Okayama. Originally born in Tobe, Ehime, he developed a deep fascination with Bizen ware, an ancient form of ceramics originating in Okayama Prefecture. In 2000, he built his own kiln in Ushimado, Okayama, where he has since been producing his acclaimed Bizen ware.

Inspired by Momoyama tea ceremony ceramics, Omori has devoted himself to making tea bowls in Shino, Setoguro, Bizen, and other traditional styles. Deeply interested in the spirituality of these historical periods, he draws upon ancient philosophies, beliefs, and ways of life as a guiding force in shaping his work. A master of texture, Omori’s ceramics possess a singular, unmistakable character that pays tribute to the ancient Bizen tradition while establishing a distinctly contemporary expression.
