About 20 years ago, after my stay in Paris, I decided to live in Kyoto. It was a place with a wonderful scenery with a venerable temple including Kinkakuji Temple near my house. But there were also many forgotten machiya (traditional wooden townhouses) nearby, which presented me a strange and contrasting scenery from the surroundings. The house I drew was part of a townhouse that had been around for a long time, and it was about to collapse.
To me it was so beautiful.
