Kenta Hirai’s Soaring is carved from Yoshino cedar, an esteemed wood from Nara Prefecture known for its beautiful and rare grain. Hirai masterfully manipulates the wood using free-form lamination, thin slices imperceptibly arranged into flowing curves, which he studied under Irish furniture artist Joseph Walsh. Soaring takes the form of an elegant layered arc, reminiscent of an outstretched bird’s wing.
