In Cherry Blossom Folding Screen “Dancing Blossoms”, Daisuke Nakano paints a cherry blossom tree located at the Kyoto Imperial Palace, illuminated by a full moon partially obscured by dense canopies of blossoms. Petals drift across the painting’s edges, carried by a gentle wind. Painted in the traditional Nihonga style, Nakano’s use of vibrant color—created from pigments made of crushed precious minerals and insect shells mixed with nikawa, a deer-collagen glue—and meticulous brushwork creates a surface overflowing with subtle movement, evoking the beauty of early spring.
