In his dyeing, Fukumoto uses the rōzome technique, in which hot liquified wax is painted onto the surface of cloth before dye is applied, leaving behind unique and dynamic impressions. Here, he uses wax resist to create an organic net like structure, overlaid with a precise grid. The two forms create an intriguing tension between fluid and rigid forms.
