In Folding Screen: Wind Deity & Thunder Deity, Fukumoto uses his textile inlay technique, or nuno-zōgan—in which he reassembles small pieces of cut, dyed fabric into larger mosaics—to create his traditional byōbu screens. Each fragment interacts uniquely with light and perspective, giving the impression that the screens shimmer with color.
