In Six Panel Folding Screen: Shredded Message, Fukumoto employs his nuno-zōgan (textile inlay) technique to compose a vibrant checkerboard pattern across a six-panel byōbu screen. He begins by backing hand-dyed fabric with washi paper, then meticulously cuts it into small fragments. These pieces are carefully reassembled into a patchwork composition and adhered with starch paste. The resulting screen is filled with movement, as each square is composed of multicolored fabric slices set at varying angles.
