Kaori Someya's butterflies represent a desire for transformation. Within them she observes the coexistence of anxiety and hope. Someya weaves her emotions into each butterflyblending themes of changing seasons and tagasode—the motif of a missing presence—as a depiction of the passage of time and transformation of the environment as autumn approaches.
