Isezaki specializes in Bizen ware, one of Japan’s oldest ceramic traditions, characterized by natural wood ash glaze on rough, sandy clay. After forming the body on a pottery wheel, Isezaki gently pressed into the wet clay to mold the vessel’s asymmetrical, ambiguous, and almost sculptural shape. The thinly applied wood ash glaze accentuates the object’s curves while retaining the rough texture of the Bizen clay.
