Varnished with a black the urushi lacquer, Jihei Murase’s water jar is smoothly rounded and intended to resemble the moon. Within is a textured matte gray varnish which emulates the extraterrestrial landscape. Though the lacquer is pitch-black, Murase's subtle variations in form accentuate the old-growth elm.
