The bright blue-green hue of Yasue Maetake’s Printed Oxidation and Indigo Blue on Fiber Relief II is created through incorporating industrially sourced matter into the traditional washi papermaking process. Made from beaten mulberry bark and cotton, the paper’s long, delicate fibers bind with verdigris—a pigment produced through the oxidation of copper—and indigo, creating a richly textured relief.
