Andoche Praudel is a French ceramicist and painter whose works incorporate philosophical concepts from both Western and Japanese traditions, transforming clay or the painted canvas into abstract expressions. Shaped in part through a longstanding friendship with the renowned potter Raku Kichizaemon XV, Praudel’s work rejects distinctions between artistic disciplines, viewing ceramics, painting, poetry, and other creative pursuits as different paths toward the same search for unity. In Grand Transparent 1, Praudel uses sheer organza silk as a canvas, filling it with layered color and dynamic brushstrokes, evoking the elegance and fluidity of calligraphy.
