Though it may seem exhumed straight from the earth, Terumasa Ikeda’s geode-like tea caddy is fashioned from kiso hinoki cypress and decorated with laser-cut mother-of-pearl laid into urushi lacquer in the tradition of raden. The irregular shape and raw, crystalline character further the trompe l’oeil of Ikeda’s unique form.
