View on a wall
Daisuke Nakano’s Snowy World is a large screen painting that folds open in the middle to reveal the intricate landscape of winter transitioning into spring.
Snowy World uses the visual plane in a very unique way - while the painting does not use elements of shading to suggest a foreground or background, the detail in linework and movement of the image suggests at least two layers of visibility. The stream is revealed at the base of the painting, moving upwards at a slight diagonal while the overlapping branches in the frontal composition of the painting suggest the trees to be much closer to the viewer in the visual plane.
The colors, mainly muted, stand out with the incorporation of vibrant berries and flowers that reveal themselves through a blanket of snow.
A mastery of narration, Daisuke Nakano’s painting is a story of hope and transition into spring.
