View on a wall
Kan Kishino’s Yakishime Tea Bowl is a wheel thrown tea bowl with brightly colored orange clay body. The atmospheric firing brings out the fantastic iron oxide material in the clay, producing a fantastically vibrant color. The brown ash glaze drips alongside the face of the tea bowl, spreading out and reacting to the clay body. The form of this piece is more bellied out towards the foot, curving outwards and the even walls and lip of the form reflect an attention to precision and control in the artist’s hand.
