Koichiro Isezaki Japanese, b. 1974
H26.5 x W26 x D26.5 cm
Isezaki creates his Yō pieces from the inside, pressing and shaping the clay, causing it to expand and contract. The form folds in on itself as if releasing a breath, the final sculpture an elegant and unique embodiment of the artist’s mastery of Bizen clay. A piece’s placement within the anagama kiln dictates its coloring; as ash falls and swirls amongst the unglazed pottery, colors form organically on exposed clay.
