Yukiya Izumita's Sekisoh is acquired by the Philadelphia Museum of Art for its permanent collection. The work was presented in Surface Folds: Yukiya Izumita Clay Wares at Ippodo Gallery New York from March 9 to April 7, 2017.
The artist's ceramics reflect the seaside culture of his home in Iwate Prefecture. Izumita layers hand-dug local clay like waves onto origami. He finishes the sculpture with glazes of charcoal, iron, and manganese.
