This iteration of Kan Matsuzaki’s Yohen Iron Shino Tea Bowl has a thick layer of white slip that resembles thick clouds. The layer of slip turns and slightly coats the inside of the form. The blue, natural ash glaze stands out on the surface of the tea bowl and the dripping of the iron glaze mixes and engages in a dance with the natural ash, creating a misty composition. The base of the tea bowl reveals the depth of the firing and the natural surface of the clay. Kan’s glazing techniques are like painting landscapes, he contains a world in a single tea bowl.
