Yuri Takemura was aspired to be an oil painter in high school but felt restricted by the canvas. During a ceramics competition in Tajimi, she experienced the artistic freedom she desired. The ability to manipulate a three-dimensional surface while painting designs made the process complete. She believes her work is that of a song. The organic forms and undulations on her vessels are like her melody flowing outward visually. The colors, the soft slipped glaze texture, and glossy metallic sections work together in harmony.
Despite her youth, she has received many awards and accolades, including the 2008 Special Judges Award (Piet Stockmans), 'The 8th International Ceramics Competition Mino. Her work is held in public collections worldwide, such as 2007 'The 4th World Ceramic Biennale 2007 Korea', Yeoju World Livingware Gallery, Korea, and 2008 'Taiwan Ceramic Biennale 2008', Taipei County Yingge Ceramics Museum, Taiwan.
