Biography

Yuko Sawaya decorates delicate forms with fine threadlike patterns using blue glaze and the itchin technique. This technique involves squeezing out “deisho” (clay mixed with water) or glaze from a tube onto the surface of the porcelain to form embossed patterns. Her works are known for their feminine sensibilities. Sawaya incorporates
repeating processes with different color tones to create a design in gradation. Patterns of blue glaze and fine lines made possible by three-dimensional itchin create a profound world.
