Biography

The Living National Treasure in bizen ceramics, Jun Isezaki (b. 1936) is a legendary artist known for his organic forms and highly viscous natural ash glazes. Bizen is a rigorous endeavor; firing the anagama kiln for 14 days, which requires new logs be continuously added for fuel, produces an extremely dense ceramic with a decorative, spontaneous pattern. The endearing rustic quality demonstrates so much of the artist's hand.
